About HEIC to JPEG conversion
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It produces smaller files than JPEG at the same quality, but many Windows PCs, Android devices, and websites cannot open HEIC files. Converting to JPEG makes your photos universally compatible.
When to convert HEIC to JPEG
You transferred photos from your iPhone to a Windows PC and they won’t open. Or you need to upload a photo to a website that doesn’t accept HEIC. This is the most common situation — Apple uses HEIC by default, but the rest of the world still runs on JPEG.
This tool converts your HEIC files to JPEG at the quality level you choose. The default of 90 produces excellent results — visually indistinguishable from the original for nearly all photos. Lower the slider only if you need a smaller file size.
Note: HEIC conversion requires the Imagick extension on the server. If you see an error during conversion, it means the server does not have HEIC support installed. Standard JPEG, PNG, and WebP conversions work with the default GD library.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a HEIC file?
- HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple’s default photo format since iOS 11 (iPhone 7 and later). It stores photos in about half the space of JPEG at the same quality. The downside is that many non-Apple devices and services can’t open it.
- Why can’t Windows open my iPhone photos?
- Windows 10/11 can open HEIC if you install the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store, but many users don’t have them. Converting to JPEG is the simplest solution — it works on every Windows version without installing anything.
- Will the photo quality be the same?
- At quality 90 (the default), the JPEG is visually identical to the HEIC original for photographs. JPEG uses lossy compression so there is a tiny theoretical loss, but it is not visible to the human eye at this quality level.
- Can I convert HEIF files too?
- Yes. HEIF and HEIC are closely related formats. This tool accepts both .heic and .heif files.
- Is my file stored on your servers?
- Files are kept only long enough for you to download the result. Everything is automatically deleted within 24 hours. We do not store, share, or analyze your images.
